What is personalised cancer treatment?

Personalised medicine, or precision medicine, is when we can better adapt disease treatment to the genetics of each patient and molecular subtype of the disease

The recent development of high-throughput DNA sequencing hs enabled us to analyse in molecular detail all the chromosomal aberrations and gene mutations that appear in cancer. Combined with the ever increasing availability of drugs targeted at specific cancer mechanisms, this opens exciting new opportunities for new cancer treatments. However, this is still early days, and we need much more understanding to exploit these opportunities. The objective of NCGC is to contribute to this understanding, and provide competence and infrastructure that can be useful in the health service.
