NCGC presents their recommendation to the Minister of Health

Ragnhild A Lothe, Per Eystein Lønning, Bjørn Tore Gjertsen and Ola Myklebost presented our recommendations on how the the prioritised effort by the Ministry on personalised medicine can build on our national genomics platform. We pointed out that cancer is a very complex disease with a large number of patients and requires a solid multidisciplinary network for clinical implementation. genome-based diagnostics and treatment will remain research-based for a long time, and better understanding is required before these strategies will benefit most patients, but it is absolutely necessary that the methods are established in the Health service, competence is built and experience is gained. We recommend a national cancer genome platform with regional nodes, linked to a national tumour board that works with our national cancer groups. This platform and network can establish and further develop knowledge-based and sustainable protocols for how these strategies can be adapted to each patient group.
